What bedroom styling is
I lead the workshop’s “Bedroom Styling” initiative — styling proposals spanning from bedding to the whole atmosphere of the bedroom. The work includes: styling proposals for the bedroom space, content planning for light-bedding product pages, content editing for the OFUTON KOBO Magazine, and one-to-one bedroom consultations with customers via social media. Every household’s bedroom differs — I want the workshop’s products to settle naturally into each different context.
The bedroom is the start and end of the day
Each day begins and ends in the bedroom. The living room can be for socialising, the study for work, but the bedroom is the room that belongs to “oneself.” So the bedroom should not be a “secondary room” — it is the core place that shapes the texture of daily life. Bedding is the foundation; light, textiles and storage are the extension; the overall atmosphere is the result.
From “visual-first” to “the true work of sleep”
Before I obtained the Certified Sleep & Bedding Advisor, I weighed “how good it looks” more heavily when styling a bedroom. After studying the qualification, I began to put “whether this styling truly suits sleep” further forward. The visual and the functional do not conflict — but it takes professional knowledge to truly join the two. That was my turning point as a bedroom stylist.
Advice for overseas customers
Homes in dense Asian and Western cities alike differ in form from those in Japan — humid weather, high-density housing, small units and storage needs all affect the choice of bedding. Placing the strength of the Japanese shikibuton (put away by day, laid out by night) into the living context of a modern home is itself a proposal for a way of life. If you have a specific bedroom puzzle, you are welcome to reach me through the workshop’s consultation channels.
