Which Japanese shikibuton suits side sleepers?

SORA is approx. 12 cm thick with 50% wool in its comfort filling and a fuller feel. HIMARI is approx. 10 cm thick over a firm core. Compare the models by construction, dimensions and your preferred feel.

Side sleepers may prefer different levels of cushioning at the shoulder and hip. SORA is approximately 12 cm thick, with 50% wool in its comfort filling and a fuller, balanced-medium feel. HIMARI is approximately 10 cm thick in total, including an approximately 8 cm firm support core, with a medium-firm feel. Compare those constructions with the mattress you use now and your own preferences. Neither model has a published pressure measurement here; these are construction descriptions, not comfort test results.

How to choose

  • Mostly on your side, and firm surfaces feel too hard: start with SORA 宙.
  • You change position through the night and like stable support: HIMARI 日葵 is designed for back and side sleepers who prefer a steadier surface.
  • Pillow height: on a shikibuton, as on any bed, side sleepers generally need a pillow that fills the space between the head and the shoulder.

A base that supports the feel

Use either model on a firm, level surface. A soft base underneath changes the support and feel, so the shikibuton may not feel as intended.

Comfort is individual

A shikibuton is bedding, not a medical device, and makes no claim to relieve pain. Return rules differ by country and are set out on each country’s Terms page, so compare the specifications carefully before ordering.
