A foldable Japanese shikibuton for a small home in Jersey: measure the sleeping and storage spaces and plan somewhere dry to air it. To judge the benefit, plan the whole sequence: sleeping area, morning airing and dry storage. A foldable mattress still needs space during each of those stages.
What if the room is also my office?
Measure the clear floor after the desk and other furniture are in place. Identify where the bedding can stand or be raised while the underside dries. That makes the morning arrangement a practical part of the decision, rather than something to solve after delivery.
Can occasional guests use the same arrangement?
They can use suitable bedding and a suitable supporting surface, but guest use still calls for inspection and airing afterwards. Check that the storage area is dry before keeping bedding for a future stay. A small room does not make care optional.
