Why We Chose to Bring Japanese Shikibuton Overseas

Why authentic Japanese shikibuton can be difficult to buy overseas, and why OFUTON KOBO chose HIMARI and SORA for international customers.

The international store offers Japanese-made HIMARI and SORA with published dimensions, materials and destination-specific purchase terms. Those records let you compare the bedding before ordering, rather than relying only on a name such as “Japanese futon”.

What the published records establish

OFUTON KOBO CO., LTD. is the manufacturer; the published workshop information locates production in Oyama, Tochigi, Japan. The workshop film follows materials, equipment, sewing, inspection and finishing. It lets you inspect the process shown, while specifications and certification records answer different questions.

KAWAGUCHISEIKEN CO., LTD. operates this international website and is the international seller responsible for payment collection, order management, customer service, returns and refunds. Manufacturing origin and international selling responsibility are separate facts; the official channel and local Terms identify them.

Details to check before choosing

HIMARI 日葵 has a published length of 210 cm and manufactured widths of 100, 120 and 140 cm, with approximately 10 cm of loft. Its cotton sleeping surfaces surround cushioning layers containing 25% wool and 75% Japanese TEIJIN polyester, and a separate approximately 8 cm firm polyester support core. The wool percentage describes the cushioning fill, not the whole mattress.

SORA 宙 has a published length of 200 cm, manufactured widths of 100 and 140 cm and approximately 12 cm of loft. Its cover is 100% cotton; the cushioning fill is 50% premium wool and 50% polyester. The 50% figure describes that fill, not the entire mattress. Choose by the published dimensions and your preference for a fuller, balanced-medium feel.

Practical checks

Measure the usable length and width of the floor, platform or bed base, including any raised edges. Compare those measurements with the exact model and size offered for your country. Then check the folded size and weight, and choose a sheet or cover that fits the same dimensions.

After sleep, lift or stand the shikibuton so you can inspect its underside and the supporting surface. Let both release moisture. Air both faces in a ventilated place, turn the bedding over and rotate it head to foot regularly. Fold and store it only when it is dry.

Choose the delivery country first, then confirm the model, offered size, currency and checkout total. Review that country’s delivery and returns terms before opening the package. For invoice requirements or a delivery deadline, contact the international seller before ordering with the destination and the information you need.

Dated customer experiences

The customer-voice archive contains dated accounts of earlier purchases, including 2019 comments about folding, carrying and airing bedding. Read them as individual historical experiences, not tests of today’s specifications or proof of current international orders. Use the current product records for model details.
