Shipping is the last gate

I am now mainly in charge of packing and shipping. This is the last gate before the workshop’s product leaves — “the final stronghold sending the goods out of the company.” All the effort of the four preceding processes must be confirmed at my checkpoint. Inspection must be strict, packing steady — every day I treat each one as the one “that won’t come back once it’s sent.”

“As if seeing off my own child”

When packing I often think — this is like “seeing my own child off out the door.” It should be as near perfect as possible — the seal tight, the cushioning enough, no scuff on the outer box. That feeling of “treating it as my own” is the work ethic the workshop entrusted to me.

№ 03

How I became multi-skilled

I have worked in both firm cotton production and futon making before — so when a team is short-handed I can slot seamlessly into those processes. That “all-rounder” quality matters greatly to a small workshop. When one person can hold several posts, the whole workshop can better withstand the unexpected.

5S activity and smiles

The workshop values 5S (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain) activity greatly — it looks like merely “tidying the work environment,” but it actually lifts the cooperation and communication among colleagues. In the course of tidying a space together, conversation naturally grows, and so does laughter. “We work cheerfully, with smiles” — that is the everyday feel the workshop gives me.
