A member of the logistics team, chiefly in charge of packing and shipping. He has also worked in support-core production and futon making — a multi-skilled artisan.
The final check before dispatch
Packing and shipping are my final chance to check the finished product. I make sure the futon has been inspected and that the parcel is secure before it leaves the workshop.
“As if seeing off my own child”
Packing can feel like seeing off my own child. I check that the parcel is properly sealed and cushioned, and that the outer box is in good condition. I treat each piece with the care I would give something of my own.
How I became multi-skilled
I have worked in support-core production and futon making, so I can help either team when needed. Learning several processes gives a small workshop more flexibility when something unexpected happens.
5S activity and smiles
We practise 5S: sort, set in order, shine, standardise and sustain. Keeping the workshop organised gives us a chance to work together and talk. Those small moments of cooperation help make this a cheerful place to work.
