How it feels

Compared with a bare board or firm coir mat, a shikibuton offers more cushioning. Compared with a soft latex mattress, it may feel firmer. HIMARI has a balanced, medium-firm feel; SORA offers fuller cushioning with a balanced medium feel. Choose according to your preference for support and cushioning.

When it arrives

HIMARI is compressed and sealed in kraft paper at the workshop. After opening, lay it flat in a ventilated room and allow eight to twelve hours for the loft to return. The compression cannot be restored once the bag is opened. See Returns on this page for the terms that apply in your market.

Proof of Japanese origin and import tax support

Your futon is made in Japan and shipped directly from Japan. If customs asks for proof of origin, email info@ofutonkobo.com. We can provide documentation of its Japanese origin and, where the relevant requirements are met, the origin statement or certificate needed to claim preferential customs duty.

Where the product and shipment meet the requirements of the EU–Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), you may qualify for reduced or zero customs duty, subject to acceptance by the customs authorities. Import VAT, GST or other local taxes, and customs clearance fees, may still be payable.

To claim, email your order number and proof of payment of the customs or carrier tax invoice to info@ofutonkobo.com within 60 days of receiving your order. The euro amount is indicative. Any remaining duties or taxes and customs clearance fees are payable by you.

Delivery

Dispatched from Japan by Japan Post EMS within 2 working days of your order. Delivery usually takes about 10–14 working days after dispatch. That is Japan Post's standard for this destination, counted from dispatch rather than from your order; it is an estimate, not a guaranteed date, and customs clearance can add to it. Delivery to Malta is included in the price. Any import duties or taxes charged on arrival are paid by the recipient. If you pay import duties or taxes, we reimburse the amount actually paid, up to US$20 (approximately €18) per order, as a partial refund to your original payment method. The euro amount is indicative. Email proof of payment of the customs or carrier tax invoice and your order number to info@ofutonkobo.com within 60 days of receiving your order. Any amount above our contribution remains payable by you.

Returns

You may cancel your order within 14 days of receiving it, even if the packaging has been opened. Return shipping to Japan is paid by you, and we may deduct for any loss in value from use beyond what is needed to inspect the product. Full returns policy
