How do I choose between HIMARI 日葵 and SORA 宙?

HIMARI is approx. 10 cm thick with a firm support core; SORA is approx. 12 cm thick with 50% wool in its comfort filling. Compare thickness, feel, dimensions and everyday use.

HIMARI 日葵 is the firmer, balanced option, with approximately 10 cm of overall loft and a separate support core approximately 8 cm thick. SORA 宙 has approximately 12 cm of overall loft and fuller cushioning. Start with the feel you prefer, then compare the length and width that fit your room. The extra thickness alone does not make SORA the right choice for everyone.

The wool percentages refer to the comfort filling, not the whole futon. The cover and support core are separate parts. These are nominal product specifications; loft changes with use, and current sizes, prices and availability should be checked on your delivery country's product page.

When HIMARI may suit you better

Consider HIMARI if you prefer firmer support, need the longer 210 cm length or want a 120 cm width where it is available. Its firmer, balanced feel differs from SORA's fuller cushioning. Choosing HIMARI does not mean choosing a hard-board sleeping surface.

When SORA may suit you better

Consider SORA if you prefer fuller cushioning. Its comfort filling has a higher proportion of wool, and its nominal overall loft is greater. These differences do not guarantee comfort for any particular sleeping position or body type. If you are unsure, tell us what you sleep on now and what you would like to change before ordering.

SORA should not be chosen simply on the assumption that 12 cm will feel like a deeply sinking, very soft mattress. Tell us what you sleep on now and what you would like to change if you are unsure.

Check the surface underneath and the care routine

Your floor or bed base also affects how the bedding feels and how well the underside can dry. Both models need regular airing, turning and dry storage. Read our floor moisture guide and, if you use a bed frame, the notes on slatted bed frames.

If you are still deciding whether this kind of bedding suits your habits, start with who a shikibuton is suitable for. You can also ask us about the models before placing an order.
