OFUTON KOBO

HIMARI vs SORA: length, filling and the feel to choose

HIMARI and SORA differ in length, loft and wool-blend filling. Start with the space you have and the feel you prefer, then check the sizes actually offered for your delivery country. A higher wool percentage or greater thickness alone does not establish the right model for you.

Is HIMARI right for you?

Consider HIMARI if you prefer a firmer Japanese shikibuton and want a 210 cm length. Its approximate 10 cm loft and 25% wool-blend filling describe its construction; they do not guarantee personal comfort.

Is SORA right for you?

Consider SORA if you prefer a fuller, balanced-medium feel and a 200 cm length. Its approximate 12 cm loft and 50% wool-blend filling describe its construction; they do not guarantee personal comfort.

What the material figures actually describe

Both models have cotton covers and cushioning made from wool and polyester blends. The 25% and 50% figures refer to the wool content of the cushioning fill, not the whole mattress. HIMARI also has an approximately 8 cm firm polyester core. Thickness is measured without a sleeper on the shikibuton and changes under weight.

Are Japanese futon sizes the same as local mattress sizes?

No. Use the centimeter dimensions rather than local labels such as Twin, Double or Queen. HIMARI is made in 210 × 100, 210 × 120 and 210 × 140 cm sizes; SORA in 200 × 100 and 200 × 140 cm sizes. Measure the supporting surface and check the sizes offered for your country.

When is an OFUTON KOBO shikibuton worth considering?

Consider HIMARI or SORA when you want a Japanese-made shikibuton, can air and keep the bedding dry, and have checked the actual dimensions against your sleeping surface. HIMARI offers a firmer feel and a 210 cm length; SORA offers fuller cushioning and a 200 cm length. Comfort is personal: thickness and wool percentage alone do not establish which model will suit you. Before ordering, check the model and size offered for your destination, the current total cost, delivery conditions and local Terms.

When should I consider another option first?

Compare other options first if you need a very soft mattress feel, cannot regularly lift or air floor-used bedding, or require 100% wool filling: HIMARI and SORA use wool blends. If machine washing, a sleep trial, an urgent delivery date or a strict budget is essential, verify the model's care instructions and your destination's current purchase conditions before choosing. Neither model is a treatment for back pain or a guarantee of better sleep.

What will I need to lift and store?

HIMARI — The published weights are approximately 5, 6 and 7 kg for the 100, 120 and 140 cm widths. Folded in three, the dimensions are approximately 70 × the selected width × 30 cm. Measure the usable shelf space and consider whether you can lift that weight for airing; check the widths offered for your destination on its product page.

SORA — Published weights are approximately 6 kg for the 100 cm width and 8 kg for the 140 cm width. Folded in three, the dimensions are approximately 67 × the selected width × 36 cm. Compare those dimensions with your storage space and the widths currently offered for your delivery country.
