Shikibuton care: airing, moisture and cleaning HIMARI and SORA
Keeping the underside dry is central to using a shikibuton on the floor. HIMARI and SORA need regular airing and turning; neither should be machine-washed or soaked. This guide separates everyday handling from cleaning and links to the model's full care instructions.

A routine for floor-used bedding
- After sleep, lift or fold the bedding so the underside and supporting surface can release moisture. Avoid leaving the same underside pressed against a damp floor.
- Air it in a well-ventilated place and check both faces. When it is used directly on a floor, follow the model's instructions for a breathable moisture-control pad.
- Turn the futon over and rotate it head to foot regularly to distribute wear. Fold and store it after it has aired and dried.
- For surface stains, follow the product's spot-cleaning guidance and let the cleaned area dry completely. Do not machine-wash, soak or store the whole futon while damp.
Can I leave a shikibuton on the floor, and how should I clean it?
Use a firm, level and suitable supporting surface. Lift or fold the shikibuton after sleep so both the underside and supporting surface can dry. Air, turn and rotate it regularly. Follow the product care instructions: do not machine-wash or soak it; spot-clean surface stains and dry the cleaned area completely.
Check the care instructions before choosing
If lifting or airing the bedding is difficult in your room or routine, compare that requirement with other bedding options before ordering. A model's feel, the supporting base and the way it is maintained all matter; this care guide does not replace the specific instructions supplied for the product.
When should I consider another option first?
Compare other options first if you need a very soft mattress feel, cannot regularly lift or air floor-used bedding, or require 100% wool filling: HIMARI and SORA use wool blends. If machine washing, a sleep trial, an urgent delivery date or a strict budget is essential, verify the model's care instructions and your destination's current purchase conditions before choosing. Neither model is a treatment for back pain or a guarantee of better sleep.

What to check on the bedding itself
The 100% cotton surface in the product specification belongs to the filled shikibuton. A removable sheet or cover is a separate layer with its own care label. A cotton surface does not make the whole wool/polyester mattress machine-washable. For a local stain, follow the linked spot-cleaning instructions and dry the affected area completely before folding it away.
HIMARI — The published weights are approximately 5, 6 and 7 kg for the 100, 120 and 140 cm widths. Folded in three, the dimensions are approximately 70 × the selected width × 30 cm. Measure the usable shelf space and consider whether you can lift that weight for airing; check the widths offered for your destination on its product page.
SORA — Published weights are approximately 6 kg for the 100 cm width and 8 kg for the 140 cm width. Folded in three, the dimensions are approximately 67 × the selected width × 36 cm. Compare those dimensions with your storage space and the widths currently offered for your delivery country.
