How often should I air, turn and clean a shikibuton?

Lift it every morning so the underside can dry. OFUTON KOBO suggests airing both sides and turning the shikibuton every one to two weeks, and sooner if it feels damp.

For everyday floor sleeping in Jersey, begin with a daily underside check rather than a rule to sun the futon on one particular weekday. Give damp bedding and its base time to dry. Turning and rotating are additional habits, not a substitute for drying.

Does a sunny day mean the futon is ready to store?

It creates an opportunity to air the bedding, but check the actual condition afterwards. Weather records or sunshine alone cannot prove that a contact side or inner filling is dry. Store it when dry, not simply when your planned airing time ends.

How do I fit care around a working day?

Plan a position where room air can circulate beneath the bedding after you get up. Turn it over and change its head-to-foot direction regularly. If the bedroom is slow to dry, allow more time before returning it to the floor or a cupboard.
