A member of the Manufacturing department. She rotates through the multi-head quilting machine that quilts a shikibuton’s fabric, inner cotton and non-woven layer at once, the inner-cotton roll-shaping line, and the pillow-making line.
Working with the quilting machine
I mainly operate the multi-head quilting machine, which joins the fabric, inner filling and non-woven layer. I also help shape inner filling and make pillows, and sometimes operate the quilt-sewing machine. Each machine works differently, so I keep learning how the processes connect.
My first night on the workshop’s shikibuton
The first time I slept on one of our shikibuton, I was impressed by its comfort. That experience made the work feel personal: I wanted another customer to enjoy the same care in the piece I made.
Nerushiru® and the visualisation of sleep
The workshop developed a sleep-journal app called Nerushiru®. Using it helped me see my sleep patterns, including when I felt rested or restless, and think about habits I could change. That made me want to learn more about sleep.
A workshop where “everyone is kind”
What I value about the workshop is how considerate everyone is. When someone needs help, colleagues step in; being able to work across several processes helps us manage busy days. That everyday care makes this a place where I want to stay.
