How to measure
Start with the floor area you can keep dry and level.
Measure the intended floor, platform, or bed-frame surface in centimetres. A shikibuton should sit fully supported, without hanging over an edge or dipping into a soft base.
Inch values are useful references for shoppers used to Twin, Full, or Double labels, but the centimetre dimensions are the product record.
- HIMARI Single: 210 x 100 x approx. 10 cm.
- HIMARI Wide Single: 210 x 120 x approx. 10 cm.
- HIMARI Extra Wide Single: 210 x 140 x approx. 10 cm.
- SORA Single: 200 x 100 x approx. 12 cm.
- SORA Double: 200 x 140 x approx. 12 cm.
Fit and movement
Width changes comfort more than the name suggests.
A compact width suits small rooms and traditional floor sleep. A wider width gives more turning room for one sleeper or a more generous guest setup.
For Australia, current checkout support is limited to the 100 cm width for both HIMARI and SORA.
Are OFUTON KOBO sizes the same as Hong Kong bed-size references?
No. The official dimensions are Japanese centimetre measurements. Inch values are approximate references only.
Should I choose HIMARI or SORA by thickness?
Thickness matters, but feel matters too. HIMARI is the standard thickness used in Japanese homes, approx. 10 cm with a balanced firm feel. SORA is approx. 12 cm, made deeper for side sleepers and sleepers used to a Western mattress.
