Our Own Workshop in Japan
Japanese shikibuton, prepared and finished in Oyama, Tochigi. Our workshop is in Oyama, Tochigi, Japan.
Workshop staff carry out documented preparation, assembly, sewing, inspection, finishing, and packing responsibilities for the shikibuton made there.
The family business began as the Takahashi Cotton Shop in Kōtō, Tokyo in 1873.
The scale and equipment have changed, but the principle has not: keep responsibility for the work close to the people who make it.

About the workshop
Why we keep our own workshop
The workshop team has direct responsibility for documented preparation, assembly, sewing, inspection, and finishing tasks.
The people who operate the equipment can review work before and after their own task. Material, construction, and order questions are traced through the records available for the relevant product and process.
- 01
Documented work
Workshop responsibilities are described by the task and product record that supports them.
- 02
Made in Japan
The current HIMARI and SORA product records identify Japan as the place of manufacture.
- 03
Family stewardship
Nakajō Yūsuke carries the work forward as the Fifth Generation representative.
- 04
Documented
Memberships and certification numbers are presented with their issuer and scope, rather than as unexplained badges.
