How do I store a shikibuton, or take it with me when I move?

A shikibuton folds into thirds for storage and moving. Store it clean and fully dry in a breathable cover, off the floor, and air it before using it again.

For a move within Guernsey or a journey off the island, check the packed dimensions, weight and transport space before relying on a shikibuton as portable bedding. Folding can make a move easier to plan, but it does not guarantee a fit in a particular vehicle or storage locker.

What should I check before packing?

Make sure the bedding is dry and inspect its condition. Check doorways and the space in which you will carry, store or transport it. Keep access to the product's care instructions so the routine can continue in the next room.

What happens at the destination?

Unpack in a dry place and let the bedding air before use. Measure the new floor or bed base rather than assuming it will fit as before. Bedding that has become damp in storage needs attention before it is laid flat or closed away again.
