Outside Japan there is one place to buy from us: the official international store at shop.ofutonkobo.com, reached from the Buy buttons on this site. The store shows the price in your own currency once it knows your country, and shipping to your address is included in that figure. Import duty and tax are not: your own country charges those on arrival, at its own rates. Here is what an order to your country involves.
Shipping to Vietnam is included in the price. Dispatched from Japan by Japan Post EMS within 2 business days of your order. Delivery usually takes 7–10 business days after dispatch. That is Japan Post's standard for this destination, counted from dispatch rather than from your order; it is an estimate, not a guaranteed date, and customs clearance can add to it.
Any import duties or taxes charged on arrival are paid by the recipient. If you are charged, we contribute ₫450,000 towards it — that is the amount we refund, set for this market and reviewed with the price list. Email info@ofutonkobo.com the customs or carrier receipt with your order number within 60 days of delivery. It is a fixed contribution, not an estimate of the charge, and anything above it is paid by you.
Damage in transit, a fault or a wrong item is our responsibility, return shipping included. An unopened order can still be sent back within 7 days of delivery, with return shipping paid by you. Because a shikibuton is personal bedding, we cannot accept change-of-mind returns once it has been opened, and we do not offer sleep trials.
One store, and who is behind it
OFUTON KOBO Co., Ltd. makes every shikibuton in its own workshop in Oyama, Tochigi. KAWAGUCHISEIKEN CO., LTD. operates this website and the international store, and is the seller and merchant of record for international orders: payment, order management, customer service, returns and refunds. They are two separate companies, and it is worth knowing which one you are dealing with when you write to us.
We sell through that one store and through no marketplace, reseller or agent. If you find HIMARI 日葵 or SORA 宙 offered somewhere else, it did not leave our workshop for that shelf, and we cannot answer for what is in the box.
What the price includes, and what it does not
The price includes shipping. It does not include import duty or tax, and we cannot see that figure in advance: the rate is set by your country, not by us, and it depends on the declared value and the category. If you are charged, we contribute a fixed amount towards it, shown above for your country, against the customs or carrier receipt. That contribution is not an estimate of the charge; anything above it is paid by you.
Enter the recipient name and address exactly as the carrier will need them. Incorrect details can fail customs clearance and send the parcel back to Japan, and the postage for a return that is not our fault is paid by the buyer.
Before you order
- Measure the floor, platform or frame in centimetres and compare it with the model dimensions; no Japanese width matches a local mattress size exactly.
- Check which widths reach your country: Australia receives the 100 cm width only, which is a shipping limit rather than a product one.
- Decide between the two models before you order rather than after: a shikibuton is personal bedding, and once the seal is opened it cannot be exchanged for a different size or feel.
