Terms and conditions

Last updated August 30, 2026. Shopify checkout and the policies displayed there govern the commercial order in addition to these website terms.

1. Separate business roles

OFUTON KOBO CO., LTD. is the brand company and manufacturer of the products. KAWAGUCHISEIKEN CO., LTD. is a separate legal entity that operates this international website and acts as the international seller and merchant responsible for payment collection, order management, customer service, returns, and refunds.

2. Website information

This site provides product, brand, culture, sizing and care information. HUF prices are indicative conversions of our French euro price list. The final currency and total confirmed at checkout before payment are authoritative.

3. Orders and availability

An order is placed only through Shopify and is subject to inventory, payment authorization, fraud screening, delivery availability, and acceptance by the seller. Items placed in a cart are not reserved until the store confirms the order.

4. Price, delivery, duties, and taxes

HUF amounts are indicative conversions of our French euro price list at the ECB reference rate of 15 October 2026 (1 EUR = 363.60 HUF). Check availability and the final HUF total at checkout for your delivery address in Hungary. Import taxes, duties and clearance fees not collected at checkout are payable by the recipient.

Orders are dispatched from Japan by Japan Post EMS. Check the delivery options and cost available for your address at checkout. Any delivery estimate is indicative; customs clearance may add time. Import taxes, duties and clearance fees not collected at checkout are payable by the recipient.

5. Product dimensions and normal variation

Centimetre dimensions are the primary product measurements and inch values are approximate references. Soft fibre products may show normal variation in loft, dimensions, weight, compression, and appearance due to measurement method, humidity, production lot, packing, and use.

6. Care and intended use

Use the shikibuton on a firm, level, clean, and suitably ventilated surface. Follow the care information for moisture, airing, rotation, covers, spills, and cleaning. The products are household bedding, not medical devices, and no site content is medical advice.

7. Returns, damage, and incorrect items

For cancellation, returns, refunds or a problem with your order, email info@ofutonkobo.com. We will provide instructions for your individual case. For an ordinary return unrelated to a defect or our error, return delivery to Japan is at your cost, subject to applicable law. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

The cost of returning the item to Japan is paid by you. A shikibuton weighs approximately 5–8 kg, so international return postage can be significant; contact us for an estimate before you order if this matters to you.

You may inspect the product as you would in a shop. If it has been used beyond that (for example, slept on or soiled), we may deduct an amount that reflects the loss in value.

If an item arrives damaged, defective or incorrect, we cover the return shipping and put it right with a replacement or refund.

If an item arrives damaged, defective, incorrect, or not as described, contact customer service promptly with the order number. Photographs can help us assess the issue but are not a condition of statutory rights. Mandatory consumer rights that apply in Hungary are not excluded.

Hungarian consumers may notify us at info@ofutonkobo.com of withdrawal within 14 days of receiving the goods, then send the goods back within 14 days of that notice. Return instructions are provided individually by email; waiting for instructions does not extend or restrict statutory deadlines. For an ordinary return the customer pays the direct return delivery cost to Japan. For a confirmed defect, incorrect item or item not as described, we cover the return delivery cost. Refunds are made within 14 days of withdrawal notice, although we may withhold payment until the goods or evidence of dispatch have been received, whichever comes first. Standard outbound delivery is refunded; any additional cost of an upgraded delivery option is not. Handling beyond what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods may result in a lawful deduction for diminished value. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

8. Intellectual property

Brand names, logos, product names, photographs, video, text, design, and other materials remain protected by their respective rights. No right to reproduce, redistribute, adapt, scrape in bulk, or use the materials commercially is granted except where applicable law permits or written permission is provided.

9. Changes and accuracy

We may correct errors and update product or policy information. A material change to an accepted order will be handled through the order process rather than silently changing the agreement after purchase.
